Test Overview
Background:TMBDigitSymbolMatching(Chaytoretal.,2021;D’Ardenneetal.,2020;Hartshorne&Germine,2015;Hawksetal.,2023;Pozoetal.,2022;Singhetal.,2021;Singhetal.,2023)isaprocessingspeedtestadaptedfromtheWAIS-III(Wechsler, 1997)forremote,digitaladministration.
TaskParameters:Participantsarepresentedwithsixsymbols,eachofwhichispairedwithasingledigitbetween1-3(i.e.,twosymbolsarepairedwitheachdigit).Thesedigit-symbolpairingsremainvisiblethroughoutthedurationofthetest.Individualprobesymbolsaresequentiallypresentedabovethedigit-symbolpairings,towhichparticipantsrespondbyselectingthecorrespondingdigitasquicklyaspossiblefor90seconds;eachprobesymbolremainsvisibleuntilparticipantsmakearesponse,oruntil90secondshaveelapsedfromthebeginningofthetesttrials.Participantscompletethreepracticeprobesbeforebeginningthe90secondsoftestprobes.
PrimaryOutcome:Thesuggestedprimaryoutcomeofthetestismedianreactiontimeofcorrectresponsestotestprobes(medianRTc),ameasureofprocessingspeed.Researchersmayalsoconsiderincorporatingresponseaccuracy(proportionofprobescorrectlymatched).
UserInput:Participantsrespondeitherbytouchingthedigitthatcorrespondswitheachsymbolprobe(touchcompatibledevices),orbypressingthecorrespondingdigitontheirkeyboard.
AlternateTaskVersions:Alternateformsofthetestareavailableforrepeatedadministration.Additionally, anultra-brief,EMA-compatibleversionisavailable(Hawksetal.,2023;Singhetal.,2023),whichhas30secondsoftestprobesinsteadof90seconds.
Psychometrics:● Reliability: Insingle-sessiontesting,variationinperformance(medianRTc)betweenparticipantshasasplit-halfreliabilityof.98.SeeHawksetal.,2023andSinghetal.,2023forpsychometricdetailsofmultiple-sessionEMAadministration.● Scoredistribution:
